To be fair, we weren't aware of the issue until the razors were dispatched and feedback started coming in. Hopefully my new cap puts the issue to bed and I can start enjoying the razor. Having originally ordered the razor on 31st August my enthusiasm has somewhat waned for it now though.
So, I’m thinking while most don’t know about vintage Schick and GEM blade holders, why folks aren’t buying them up?? How can you beat a $7-12 blade holder ???

Already got them in the den - a good mix of new and vintage. I liked the look of this particular razor.

Yeah- but GEM blades are the worst shaving blades available. All the AC blades I’ve tried have been far superior to the best GEM blade so this should be a better razor.

What??

I’ve used the GEM PTFE and AC. I don’t experience a difference.

That’s an unusual experience ,as I find there is a big difference between the different AC blades. In fact I struggle to get a really close Shave with a Gem Blade in The likes of a HFT or Featherweight, but generally get good Shaves with most AC Razors that I currently use.

May I ask what GEM blade holder you use? Some require a particular angle like the Micromatic. Also, after trying all available, I use the coated GEM blades. Some are box cutters and not sutiable for me to use for shaving.

Are that probably explains your views on the AC blades. I like many use them to great effect in Single Edge Safety Razors.
I get the same result using either. I used a self honed SR this morning with the same result as a manufactured blade. Maybe I misunderstood your point.

I think perhaps you did. This particular thread is one relating to The Claymore Evo AC/SE Razor. It was thought you were comparing the performance of the AC blades in this type of Razor against the Gem PTFE in a Vintage SE, whereas you were rating their performance in a Shavette.

Actually, I was trying to disagree that the GEM blade is inferior to the AC blade.

While your experience is the most important factor for you, I didn’t want other potential GEM users to not give them a personal evaluation.

Perhaps you would get a better response if you created an appropriate thread.. Ie Gem Blade V AC blade which is better in different Razor types.
